starting the raya gear

assalamualaikum and hi! :)

would like to post this time in english.
but don't mind me, this won't make me any less malay or malaysian. still am ;)

so!
this time it's about raya.
today marks the 17th day of syawal.
alhamdulillah i started replacing the ramadan fast quite early this time, together with the 6 days of syawal fasting. 6 days completed. got another few days to finish the rest. *root for me! lolx*

the pandemic is also nearly ending *alhamdulillah!*,
raya open houses are permitted this year (how cool is that!).

so we went to our first open house, at neighbour's.

donning blue and white, mix and match.

i think i didn't snap any photos at my neighbour's house,
but there's a video! haha

ya, the open house took place at night.
i love the night vibe. one cuz it's cozy, not too hot (hm but still hot, prolly the weather.. hihi), and it's early syawal, so many people are doing the syawal fasting on daylight.
best reasons to do open houses at night.
so after a while, the house was swarming with so many people,
we quickly finished our meal and headed out to play fireworks and firecrackers.

anaqi and i.
they were many other kids too, but not in the shot.

end story of our first open house on 2022.

and down here is the photo of lemang periuk kera, or the pitcher plant lemang.
we've been looking for it right before raya, but to no avail.
i was asking around cuz my husband really dig it *that's how i love him, went looking every nook and cranny for the things that he crave -- if you read this, hun. (i bet not) haha*

finally i found it!
someone at the office shared the info,
and suddenly many other people were ordering too.
i was more than glad to help them ordered this, so everyone would have the pleasure to taste this delish dish.
oh oh and the rendang! (spicy yellow 'pencen' chicken rendang -- btw how do you call an ayam pencen in english? LOL)
the rendang was fiiiiine.
sedaplah. at par to my tastebud. and yours too *everyone loves delish food lah, right?* kehkeh.

MYR15 per set, bought from mr. uzai, a former staff at our office.
he's doing this full time now, so do not hesitate to contact him to order: 013-6317688
(putrajaya and nearest)

ok to our next open house!
this happened last saturday.
i usually set my weekends *friday too* as 'free-of-fasting' days to celebrate things like this open house lah. lolx

SHARING
i've read somewhere about ramadan's fasting replacement (ganti puasa wajib).
if we're replacing ramadan fasting on that particular day (it's wajib, right),
we cannot bluntly just breaking fast without a concrete reason.
E.G.: we're replacing a fast today.
suddenly, office has eid open house.
so we just break our fast to celebrate and to eat. or because our friends ask us to.
we can't, cuz breaking ramadan fast, even though when we're replacing it, is a sin (berdosa).
unlike sunnah fasting (syawal fasting, or the monday thursday fasting),
that one, we can break our fast because it's not wajib.
wallahu a'lam.
so if we know there will be open houses or whatsnot, and we want to go there to eat,
make sure we're not fasting on that day lah.
fast the next day also cannn :D
*but yeah, one must complete the fasting replacement soon. do not wait till the end of the year. cuz who knows what will happen to us that time, right? tetiba sakit ulcer ke, or gastrik, terkejar pulak nak ganti last minute*

BACK TO THIS OPEN HOUSE STORY. LOLX

idk how to tell this kid to pose a decent look these days. haha!
(always making faces in front of the camera. i surrender already :P)

yeah, this open house is the grand one.
almost look like a wedding, right?
there were many dishes and as a foodie, i was loving it!
beriyani rice, spicy sweet chicken, roasted lamb, satays, apam balik, many many more i can't list them all.
the drawback is just, there were so many people too. peak hours may be.
so i couldn't eat calmly.
there were like two families standing around our table,
waiting for anyone to get up so that they could take over.. haha.
thing is, i just sit and started eating!
i felt like people are looking at me while i ate lolx *though they didn't? i just felt it because they were all surrounding the table*

so i just ate some dishes quickly and then got up to give seats to others.
how baik. not. haha

right before our table being swarmed with guests.

nevertheless, i had a good time there.
met my former boss, didn't catch up anything *lolx*, just saying hi and bye, and a photo snap, cuz he's busy with many guests.
thank you, for the warm hospitality.

next!
the next day on sunday, my fam said let's go balik kampung our late abah.
so let's!

our late abah was a tampin's boy.
tampin, as in negeri sembilan.
the land of delicious authentic lemang and smoky food (smoky beef, smoky chicken, smoky duck. all smoked. lolx. JK)

our grannies already passed away before abah,
so the ones that reside there are our mak lang, induk siti and induk chom. that's how we call our aunties in nogori.
right now both induks are not in the right 'weather'.
induk siti can barely stand up, or else she'll faint. speedy recovery for her.
last time induk nah was there too, but passed away due to cancer. *al-Fatihah*
usually induk nah will help mak lang like go buy groceries, drive the van/car and things like that.
now that induk nah is not around, mak lang did it herself at her golden age.
i pray that Allah give her strength and wellness to face days ahead. and pray for many manyyy rewards for here as she takes care of the family since forever.
thank you, mak lang.

us all, with mak lang.
Allah grant her a good health at the age of.. 73 i think. alhamdulillah.

mak lang and our kampung house.

trivia: my yearly rendang raya's recipe was originally from mak lang.
like no any other.
i never find a rendang as delish as mak lang's.
usually she cooked rendang with like 5 chickens every raya.
but now as she grew older and had to take care of induk,
she just cooked 2 chickens this year.
she cannot cook much like before.
so now when i feel like i want to eat mak lang's rendang,
i have to cook it myself. sobs. :P

next we went to pak ngah and mak ngah's house in seremban.

mak ngah was also not in the best condition (bila dah ziarah sana sini baru la tau keadaan saudara mara. Allahu).
she told us that she fall on march, hurt her waist (and body)
and now she just lay and resting on her bed.
the time i visited, mak ngah was also having a fever. may Allah grant her wellness.

us all with pak ngah. not in the photo; the kids, husb, ain and durra.
they're all somewhere outside the frame. lolx

me and mama. may Allah always blessed her with good health and His rahmah.

last but not least,
i wanna talk about kuih raya (traditional raya cookies/biscuits).
didn't buy much,
this year, i think initially i bought one semperit and two nutella swiss tart. haha
yeah that's it.
then my mom gave me this cornflakes biscuits, made by her.. yums!

cornflakes biscuits by mama.

and this flower semperit, i just bought it for MYR22 only at tampin.
sedaplah pulak, it really melts in the mouth.

so to many many more open houses in the future *insyaAllah*
lolx. bye!!
